As I was studying some yoga techniques, I came across a breathing technique that really seems to help calm the nerves and reduce stress. This year, this time of year, we can all certainly use some stress reduction. The other day I had just a minute waiting for someone until I went in to the mall to vote. I did this breathing for 1 minute - and it helped immediately!
The technique is based on resonance. Resonant breathing helps to balance the autonomic nervous system - it balances the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The parasympathetic system is the calming, stress reduction part that we need to stimulate to overcome the tendency to live in the sympathetic system. Many scientific studies have been performed on resonant breathing and the benefits.
