We are in this together. I suppose that is the Yoga Collective’s mantra. Our intent when we relocated from Spirit Path to Heart of Massage and Yoga in 2019 was to hold space for our yoga community to practice, learn and grow together. And we are again at a crossroads a year later. Having already transitioned well to online classes due to COVID-19, the next right step is to let go of our lovely practice space.

Herman Hesse once said, “Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go.” If we work at one thing as yogis, it is being flexible - in mind, body and spirit. In that process, we get stronger. We become better able to see the truth of each moment. Those attributes helped us conclude that until social distancing is no longer needed, maintaining a studio space just doesn’t make sense for us. Therefore, TYC teachers and Nichol gathered to release the space from our hold on Thursday, May 28.

We lit a white candle to represent new beginnings.

We also cut a piece of rope to represent separating from the space. Then we tied the two pieces together to represent our ongoing commitment to each other and our yoga community.

We spoke memories, said goodbye, and let it go.

We closed the door one last time.

Yet, as they say, when one door closes, another one opens. The Yoga Collective is now an online and outdoor yoga community. To mark this transition, please join us for a Solstice Yoga in the Park gathering on Wednesday, June 24 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Cuddy Family Park. We will do yoga while social distancing followed by a picnic. It’s BYOP (bring your own props and picnic). See our website at for more information.

What we know for sure is that walking down a path of uncertainty together feels a lot better than walking it alone. Thanks to all for sticking it out with us. We look forward to continuing our practice together online and in the park this summer. And, many thanks to Nichol Robbins and the Heart of Massage and Yoga for a beautiful vision and the space in which to realize it. We look forward to maintaining our connection.
